As the number of cars on the roads increases by leaps and bounds, car manufacturers are responding with unprecedented choices of makes and models.  When shopping for another car, a consumer is faced with many decisions.  One must choose whether to buy new or used, what type of car, what make and model of car, and what price of car he or she is looking for.  While many options on the market provide good, reliable, affordable vehicles, it is simply hard to go wrong when purchasing a quality used Honda as the car of choice.

Honda, like many car dealers, has instituted a certified used Honda program.  This program means that when a dealership obtains a used car that is a certain age or younger (usually three model years beyond the current “new” inventory), the dealer inspects the car, repairs it if necessary, details it, and sells it with an extended warranty.  The certification means that the car has passed inspection and is believed to be of good quality.  At Honda, the certification encompasses over 150 points, both interior and exterior, and also mechanical.  The engine, transmission, tires, brakes, suspension, stereo, heating and cooling systems, and nearly everything else imaginable, must be tested and found to be in good working condition in order for a used car to earn a certification.

Purchasing a certified used Honda is a smart move in a number of ways.  Since Honda’s retain their resale value so well, the used car my be a bit more expensive than other models, but the plus side is that the car will retain its value for longer, and will even have some value left to it when the new user decides to sell the used car, for the second time in its “lifetime.”  This makes it more difficult for car owners to get “upside down” in their cars, where they owe more than the car would be worth in a private sale.

Beyond economics, a used Honda is extremely popular for both its gas mileage and its reliability and long life.  It is not uncommon for ten year old Honda’s to drive like new.  Cars with extremely high mileage, such as those that have driven more than 150,000 miles, that still run well can be hard to find, but not if one is shopping for a Used Honda!
